Lage Vuursche opts for atmospheric street lighting

24 November 2025

Lage Vuursche is a small village in the municipality of Baarn, in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The village is located in a wooded area on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, between Baarn, Bilthoven and Hilversum. The village, including the surrounding area and the Baarn part of Soestdijk, has 290 inhabitants.

Its wooded surroundings have long made it a stopping point for hikers and other day-trippers who flood the village, especially at weekends. The historic centre is home to several restaurants and taverns, most of which specialise in pancakes.

Surrounding the town centre are a number of residential streets whose public lighting needed replacing. As the vast wooded area of Lage Vuursche is located directly around these residential streets, Baarn municipality went in search of suitable street lighting with the right light colour to suit this vulnerable environment.

The luminaire choice fell on the Mini Nicole fitted with a warm light source with a colour temperature of 2700 Kelvin. Well-suited to its surroundings and atmospheric in the darker hours of the evening and night.

The choice of the Mini Nicole further embroidered one of the standard luminaires that the municipality of Baarn has used in its streetscape for many years. Besides the Mini Nicole, the Nicole and the Ariane have also become standards within the municipality's borders.

Again, these luminaires were expertly assembled at social development company Metafors in Amersfoort. In this sheltered workshop, about 15 people with a distance to the regular labour market work with pleasure and passion every day to manufacture Innolumis street lighting fixtures, which have found their way to many municipalities at home and abroad for many years, in addition to Lage Vuursche.
