The Innolumis BAT lamp was specially developed at the request of and in close cooperation with Rijkswaterstaat using monochromatic amber light sources with a peak wavelength at 592 nanometres. This provides deep orange light without colour recognition similar to low-pressure sodium lighting. The BAT lamp is used in environments where bat activity needs to be taken into account but where lighting is required for social and/or road safety reasons.
In the Netherlands, it is required by law to consider the impact on this protected species when applying lighting in areas where bats are active. Bats are sensitive to light, especially short wavelengths such as blue and white light that can disturb their flight paths and foraging behaviour.
However, the Innolumis BAT lamp has a long wavelength that prevents most bat species from being spooked or disoriented so they are not disturbed in their natural behaviour. And although there is no colour recognition, the amber light colour is still an acceptable lighting solution for humans.
This makes the Innolumis BAT lamp a sustainable and animal-friendly solution for public lighting in areas where the ecological balance between animals and humans is essential.
