However, often only the path and its immediate surroundings are lit on the street, and the area next to and behind the VOP is less or not at all illuminated. As a result, pedestrians are often noticed too late in dark situations, which can lead to dangerous situations.

From various sectors of the public lighting market, requests came to Innolumis to develop a good and, above all, safe solution for VOP (presumably "Verkeers- en Openbare Plaatsverlichting" - Traffic and Public Area Lighting, or a similar term). To this end, tests were conducted with special lenses in the Victoria luminaire series, which were subsequently tested in practice.

Because the lenses, in combination with the light sources, also illuminate a significant area next to the VOP, a much better and safer light image was created. By choosing bright white light sources at 5000 K, a large difference in brightness is also created compared to the surrounding street lighting, which is often in much warmer tones. Various municipalities have now set up pilot projects to monitor the results over a longer period.

With this new type of lighting, Innolumis offers a safer solution to this frequently asked question, although road users’ own responsibility remains the most important factor. Good lighting helps, but unfortunately, safety at the scene can never be guaranteed.

De Voetganger-Oversteek-Plaats (VOP), in de volksmond ook wel zebrapad genoemd, neemt in openbaar verlichtingsland een speciale positie in.
