Recently, a significant number of remanufactured Nicole street lighting fixtures from Innolumis have been installed in the Weesp urban area of the Municipality of Amsterdam. It is the final result of a long-running pilot scheme that was launched in early 2026 to give previously discarded fixtures a new lease of life.
This time, the discarded luminaires were not disposed of via the Wecycle route, but were collected and sent to the social development company in Hoogezand, where the luminaires were dismantled to make them suitable for new luminaires.
A bold project where the result included an Environmental Cost Indicator saving of over 60% compared to the production of a completely new Nicole luminaire.
Through this pilot, both the Municipality of Amsterdam and Innolumis have learned a great deal about this so-called remanufactured project, whereby significant environmental gains were achieved and luminaires were saved from the scrap heap.
